Dear Larry and Jane,
I found your final retirement newsletter on line through the United Methodist News! I have followed your service at AU through reading some of your newsletters and thank you for sharing the news! I wish to tell you that I was a member of the GBHEM from 1988-92 and Dr Ken Yamada invited my wife, Nancy and me to attend the dedication ceremony at Old Mutare in 1992. It was the thrill of a lifetime and as a college chaplain I was blessed to present a pottery communion set to Chaplain Julius Tsiga at that event. One memorable newsletters highlights you being surrounded by cheetahs, which reminded me of us being followed by a pride of lions in the game farm near Hatari! We were hosted by the Methodist Chikwinya family, including Ken, Mildred, and their daughter, Nasha, who was a freedom fighter along with past president Mugabe.
I give thanks for your years of service in Zimbabwe and AU. We continue to make a gift to AU for scholarships and pray for the university and its students.
It sounds like you are from Boulder and have enjoyed your time in Australia!
I am preaching on Easter at our home church and I will include a reference to your service at AU and the farm project you advised.
Hi Rev Jim,
Thanks so much for your encouraging email! Very sorry for this extremely late reply…I haven’t used this blog site very much.
Jane and I just finished walking a Camino in Spain- an amazing 500 miles!
I hope that your ministry is going well..
Again, thanks for your email, and for your support for Africa University!
